Kumarapuram is a panchayat town in Kanyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The panchayat town was once part of the Travancore Kingdom. After the States Reorganisation Act was passed,
Kumarapuram became a part of the state of Tamil Nadu.
The name "Kumarapuram" was said to be derived from "Kumarakovil" . Its also said that the name "Kumarakovil" was
given only after the name of "Kumarapuram".
Both Malayalam and Tamil are spoken in the village. The place was once ruled by Nair community members .Later on ,
after 1950s the place was occupied by Tamils and they started the civilization.
This place was once under the Namboothiris of "Manalikara Madam" (only historical remains exists now).
Kumarapuram is a Panchayat town with Padmanabhapuram as its state assembly constituency in the green and vibrant
Kanyakumari District.
It also includes a part of Kodhanaloor and Velimalai. It is tucked between Thovalai, Thiruvattar, Verkilambi and
Kodhanallur.
